Biography
Moslem Khezri (b. 1984) is an Iranian painter and art writer. He received his BFA in Painting from the University of Sistan and Baluchestan (2003–2008) and his MA in Painting from Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran (2008–2011). He held his first solo exhibition in 2006 at Boutia Gallery in Kerman. Since then, he has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions both in Iran and internationally.
His works have been presented at major international art fairs, including Art Dubai (2021, 2022, 2024), The Armory Show, New York (2021), Asia NOW (2021), Art Busan (2022), KIAF Seoul (2022), EXPO CHICAGO (2023), Abu Dhabi Art (2022, 2023, 2024, 2025), and India Art Fair (2026). At The Armory Show 2021, SARAI Gallery’s booth, featuring his works, received the Presents Booth Prize. Khezri’s works are also included in the Dubai Collection and the private collection of the Abu Dhabi Royal Family.
From 2011 to 2015, Khezri taught painting at Semnan University of Art, and from 2018 to 2020 he taught at Soore University in Tehran. He has published scholarly articles in the Iranian art journals Herfeh: Honarmand, Sheyveh, and Tandis. He is also the editor of the book Figurative Perspective in Contemporary Iranian Painting (2018).
To date, Khezri has developed several major bodies of work, including Silence (2007), A Simple Induction (2015), We Keep Reviewing… (2015–2021), and In Between (2022–2024).
Artist Statement
My paintings begin with reality, but their destination is not the mere representation of reality. What draws me to a scene, a place, or a human gathering is the quality of the relationship that emerges between the body, space, and memory—a relationship that often remains hidden within ordinary, fleeting moments. For me, painting is a way of revealing this invisible layer; a layer in which space is not merely the backdrop of an event, but an active force in shaping human behavior, emotion, and identity.
My work usually begins with direct observation and photography, but throughout the process of painting, the photographic image gradually gives way to the internal logic of painting. What ultimately takes shape on the canvas is not the reconstruction of an event, but the creation of a space where lived experience, memory, and imagination converge. Light, architecture, and the arrangement of figures are the principal elements of this space, each playing a role in revealing a sense of stillness, suspension, and contemplation.
In the series We Keep Reviewing…, I explored the environment of Iranian boys’ schools—a familiar world in which social relationships, everyday rituals, and the lived experience of adolescence are distilled into a concentrated visual language. In the series In Between, this inquiry expanded to the experience of migration, displacement, and states of suspension—an experience that, in today’s world, has become not merely a geographical phenomenon, but a psychological and existential condition.
Across all of these bodies of work, what matters to me is not recording a moment or narrating an event, but creating an image in which the viewer can pause, reconsider the hidden relationships between human beings and their environment, and, through the everyday, arrive at a deeper experience of presence, absence, memory, and time.
بیوگرافی
مسلم خضری (متولد ۱۳۶۳ ش)، نقاش و هنرنویس ایرانی است. او کارشناسی نقاشی را در دانشگاه سیستان و بلوچستان (۱۳۸۲–۱۳۸۷) و کارشناسی ارشد نقاشی را در دانشگاه تربیت مدرس تهران (۱۳۸۷–۱۳۹۰) به پایان رساند. نخستین نمایشگاه انفرادی خود را در سال ۱۳۸۵ در گالری بوتیای کرمان برگزار کرد و از آن زمان تاکنون آثارش را در نمایشگاههای انفرادی و گروهی متعددی در ایران و خارج از کشور به نمایش گذاشته است.
آثار او در معتبرترین رویدادهای بینالمللی هنر، از جمله آرت دبی (۲۰۲۱، ۲۰۲۲، ۲۰۲۴)، آرموری شو نیویورک (۲۰۲۱)، آسیا ناو (۲۰۲۱)، آرت بوسان (۲۰۲۲)، کیاف سئول (۲۰۲۲)، اکسپو شیکاگو (۲۰۲۳)، ابوظبی آرت (۲۰۲۲، ۲۰۲۳، ۲۰۲۴، ۲۰۲۵) و ایندیا آرت فر (۲۰۲۶) ارائه شدهاند. در آرموری شو ۲۰۲۱، غرفهی گالری سرای با نمایش آثار او موفق به دریافت جایزهی Presents Booth Prize شد. آثار خضری همچنین در Dubai Collection و مجموعهی خصوصی خاندان سلطنتی ابوظبی نگهداری میشوند.
او در سالهای ۱۳۹۰ تا ۱۳۹۴ در دانشگاه هنر سمنان و از ۱۳۹۷ تا ۱۳۹۹ در دانشگاه سوره تهران به تدریس نقاشی پرداخت. انتشار مقالات تخصصی در مجلات حرفه: هنرمند، شیوه و تندیس و نیز گردآوری و انتشار کتاب «نگرهی فیگوراتیو در نقاشی معاصر ایران»، (۱۳۹۷)، از دیگر فعالیتهای پژوهشی اوست.
خضری تاکنون مجموعههای متعددی از جمله «خاموشی» (۱۳۸۶)، «یک استقراء ساده» (۱۳۹۴)، «ما همچنان مرور میکنیم…» (۱۳۹۴–۱۴۰۰) و «در میان» (۱۴۰۱–۱۴۰۳) را ارائه کرده است.
یادداشتی دربارهی کار
نقاشیهای من از دل واقعیت آغاز میشوند، اما مقصدشان بازنمایی صرف واقعیت نیست. آنچه مرا به یک صحنه، یک فضا یا یک اجتماع انسانی جذب میکند، کیفیت رابطهای است که میان بدن، مکان و حافظه شکل میگیرد؛ رابطهای که اغلب در لحظههای عادی و گذرا پنهان میماند. نقاشی برای من راهی است برای آشکار کردن این لایهی نادیدنی؛ لایهای که در آن فضا تنها پسزمینهی رویداد نیست، بلکه در شکلگیری رفتار، احساس و هویت انسان نقشی فعال ایفا میکند.
کار من معمولاً از مشاهدهی مستقیم و عکاسی آغاز میشود، اما در فرایند نقاشی، تصویر عکاسانه به تدریج جای خود را به منطق نقاشانه میدهد. آنچه در نهایت بر بوم شکل میگیرد، بازسازی یک رخداد نیست، بلکه ساختن فضایی است که تجربهی زیسته، حافظه و تخیل در آن با یکدیگر تلاقی میکنند. نور، معماری و چیدمان فیگورها عناصر اصلی این فضا هستند و هر کدام نقشی در آشکار شدن کیفیتی ایستا، معلق و تأملبرانگیز ایفا میکنند.
در مجموعهی «ما همچنان مرور میکنیم…» به فضای مدارس پسرانه پرداختم؛ جهانی آشنا که روابط اجتماعی، آیینهای روزمره و تجربهی زیستهی نوجوانی در آن به شکلی فشرده بازنمایی میشد. در مجموعهی «در میان»، این جستوجو به تجربهی مهاجرت، جابهجایی و وضعیت تعلیق گسترش یافت؛ تجربهای که در جهان امروز، بیش از آنکه صرفاً یک رخداد جغرافیایی باشد، به وضعیتی ذهنی و وجودی تبدیل شده است.
آنچه در تمام این مجموعهها برای من اهمیت دارد، ثبت یک لحظه یا روایت یک واقعه نیست، بلکه ساختن تصویری است که مخاطب بتواند در آن مکث کند، روابط پنهان میان انسان و محیط را بازخوانی کند و از خلال امر روزمره، به تجربهای عمیقتر از حضور، غیاب، حافظه و زمان برسد.
